SharePoint

SharePoint is a web services based application developed by Microsoft. It is a collaborative portal that allows for the sharing of documents and data between an Enterprise, its Staff, its Clients and its Customers. It has version control, document approval and a basic search functionality.

One of the amazing features of SharePoint is that web content can be updated directly from a browser window by any User with proper permissions. This virtually eliminates the need to go thru a webmaster for content updates and management.

Also, because SharePoint is web services based, data from any SharePoint site can be transmitted to any other web site subscribing to that service.

Basic SharePoint ("WSS") is available as a free component in Windows Server 2003 and also in the full-blown licensed Postal version ("SPS").
